Measuring for Kitchen & Bath Cabinets

Measuring:

Measuring is one of the most important steps to creating a successful room design. To avoid problems down the road, it's important that you take accurate measurements at the start.
Follow these guidelines to ensure your project gets off to a successful start:

Gather a tape measure and a pencil and paper to record measurements.
Take your time and record measurements properly. Measure everything twice.
Round each measurement to the nearest 1/8”.

Measuring Your Kitchen:

Measure At Least Twice To Be Sure

When measuring for your new cabinets, please be sure to measure more than once to make sure your measurements are absolutely perfect. You have a tiny bit of wiggle room when it comes to cabinets, but not much. You can use small fillers and trim to cover some measuring mistakes, but you can't shrink your cabinets to make them fit in the area. In other words if your wall is only 10', and on the end of your cabinet run is a doorway and you measure too long, your cabinets are going to overhang the doorway with no way to correct it. You will have to order a new cabinet that is norrower in order for your row of cabinets to fit in the 10' space. Be careful with measurements.

Start with the first wall on the left and work to your right around the room. First, measure the overall length of each wall in your kitchen.
Indicate all breaks in walls (windows, doors, closets) by measuring from the corner to the outside edge of the molding. Don't forget to indicate any permanent appliances, air vents, offsets, etc.
Measure to center line of plumbing, ducting and outlets. Remember, plumbing and outlets may be moved to accommodate a design.
Compare measurement “A” against the total for measurements “B” – they should match. Measure the height of your refrigerator – a tall refrigerator may prevent installing a kitchen cabinet directly above it.

Measuring Your Bathroom:

Measure the width of the available space. Take into account the room necessary for cabinet doors and drawers to open. Consider door clearance and toilet location when designing your bath.
Confirm that a 21” deep bathroom vanity will work in your available space. If your space is limited, we offer a limited selection of 18” deep bath vanities.
Confirm that a 34.5” Height vanity will work in your available space. As that is the tallest vanity we presently offer.
